Jantar Mantar in Jaipur

Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most popular attractions in Jaipur. Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, it showcases a collection of some of the best astronomical instruments in the world. It was his interest in this particular field that culminated in the construction of astronomical observatories at that time when astronomy was given a back seat by the superstitions in the region.  This structure was constructed in the year 1734.

Renowned as a UNESCO world heritage site, Jantar Mantar in Jaipur consists of 16 geometric devices which are designed to measure time, track celestial bodies and observe the orbit of the planets around the sun. An Interpretation Center that helps tourists in the understanding of the working principles along with the chronology of the observatory is also located within its premises. Astronomy as well as archaeology lovers visit this observatory in large numbers.

Over the time, the renowned observatory has been renovated again and again. Some of the popular structures in the premises of Jantar Mantar in Jaipur are the Samrat Yantra, Jaiprakash Yantra and Hindu Chhatri.
