Being located in the Mandya district of Karnataka, Brindavan Garden is 21 km far from Mysore. It is spread in 60 acres and settled at the bottom of Krishnaraja Sagara Dam, across the river Cauvery. This project took around five years to complete, and now each side of this garden shows its worth excellently. History of Brindavan Garden:
Brindavan garden was created in the year of 1932 in the complex of KRS Dam by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail. He wanted to enhance the beauty of the area, and this thought brought the foundation of this garden. The construction of this garden started in 1927 by the Department of Horticulture. The garden was completed in 1932 in Mughal style design that is inspired by the Shalimar Bagh of Kashmir. Today, the Brindavan Garden is maintained by the Cauvery Irrigation Department, Government of Karnataka.
Details about Brindavan Garden
Laid-out behind the Krishnaraja Sagar dam, spread in a terrace garden form, the Brindavan Gardens was taken over in 1927 by the Department of Horticulture when it was called Krishnarajendra Terrace Garden. The garden spreads out in 3 terraces, giving it a horseshoe shape. Colorful Bougainvilleas and other ornamental plants make the slopes look extremely beautiful. Musical fountains with colorful lighting effect add to the charm. These colorful fountains and running channels form an enchanting sight during the evenings. Enjoy a leisure walk on pathways and well-maintained narrow roads while treating your eyes to the beauty of the nature. There is a pond also in the garden complex where the visitors can partake in boat riding.
Brindavan Garden is divided into-
- Main Gate Area- The main gate of Brindavam Garden is modeled on the India Gate in New Delhi. On the either side of the main gate, there are Rose gardens.
- South Brindavan- Close to the Cauvery Statue, South Brindavan area is the Kaveramma circle that contains of big- sized water fountains. Terrace garden with allamanda and Bougainvillea plants on the slopes done in a different look alluring. This part of the garden also has a glass house with ornamental plants. The colorful sprinklers and fountains lit-up in the evening and sprinkle water on the cypress plants that are found in the garden’s centre. The lawn here includes of permanent as well as annual flowering plants.
- North Brindavan- This part consists of an area that has 4 extensive terraces with lawns, ornamental trees, and flowerbeds. Small fountains with colorful lights make the terrace gardens even more mesmerizing. You can also spot various shrubs here. This part also comprises of an ornamental plant nursery.

The main attraction of Brindavan gardens is its musical fountain, which are given an amazing effect by dancing colorful lights. The harmony formed between the water, the lights and the music forms a beautiful sight. This water ballet is controlled through a system and water pumping action is computerized. Managed by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka, Brindavan Garden complex consists of other areas also including Government fruit orchard, Naguvana Horticulture Farm, Cacti and Succulent Garden and Chandravana Naguvana Horticulture Farm. There is a Childrens’ Park also. A major hit amongst children, it has fountain slides, animals and birds in concrete and other object of interest of children.

This striking garden is settled on the KRS Dam Road near Mandya town in Karnataka. Mysore city is around 21 km far away from Brindavan Garden, and you can get the regular bus services that ply between the Garden and Mysore. The bus ride from Mysore to Brindavan Garden will take around 15-20 minutes. You can also take a taxi or cab for a more comfortable ride.
