Brahmagiri Hill in Coorg

A picturesque spot sandwiched between Wayanad district of Kerala and the Kodagu district of Karnataka, Brahmagiri Hill stands at an altitude of 1608 meters above the sea level and is popular for offering trekking opportunities. Though the trek is of moderate difficulty but once you reach the top, treat your eyes to the mesmerizing views of the surrounding area that includes thick green forests, amidst mist-clad hills.Trek through thick Shola forests, water streams, floral patches and grasslands to reach the top.

This mountain range of the Western Ghats, Brahmagiri Hill also has a number of caves, which are known to have mythological connection. This spot is quite close to another popular attraction, Iruppu Falls. These waterfalls are only 10 km away. Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary spread in an area of 181 sq km and as it is nestled amidst the lofty hills, it is popular as a trekking destination also.

Trek route

The trek of 10 km begins from Irupu falls and one can set-up the camp at Narimala Forest Camp, mid -way to the Brahmagiri Peak, 5 km from here. The first half of the trek is moderate, beginning from Irupu to Narimala where one passes grasslands and thick forests. And, the second tail of trek, from Narimala to Brahmagiri Peak is slightly tough and includes steep mountains. The trek, which takes around a time of 2 days, also includes water streams. It is necessary to take permission for trekking from Range Forest Officer (RFO) at Village Srimangala, 10 km from Iruppu falls where guides also available.
